Count the hives among the legions of Arctic Monkeys fans. In a new interview with NME, Singer Howlin’ Pelle Almqvist exclaims English rockers “the only really good folk band” these days.
“I think Arctic monkeys are absolutely amazing,” Almqvist said. “Like, this is the only really good folk band, and it’s not easy.”
The singer’s praise comes after The Hives supported Arctic Monkeys on a recent UK tour, marking a full-blown moment for the band. Almqvist revealed that English rockers took inspiration from his band and The Strokes in their early days as a group, and the two had toured together a decade earlier, before Hives went on hiatus. “It really is an amazing tour,” he said. The Hives aren’t the only artists singing Arctic Monkeys’ praises these days. Damon Albarn recently hailed Alex Turner and company as “the last great guitar band”.
