Cyndi Lauper has shared her new song “Oh, Dolores” made for the new Prime Video series Horror Dolores Roach. Listen to it below.
The new song coincides with the series debut, in which Lauper appears as a special guest. “Oh, Dolores” sounds like it might be a cut-throat in its discography, blending sexy and controversial punk with a new wave groove. Lyrically, the song serves as a message that foreshadows the series’ main character: “Hey Dolores, you’ve slipped / It happens every time, ain’t it a crime now? / How they drag you down, Dolores,” for the Uber Monkeys.
Horror Dolores Roach It is based on the fictional Spotify podcast of the same name, created and written by Aaron Mark. Season 1 focuses on Dolores, a woman who is literally starting her life over after just being released from a 16-year prison sentence. One line of reasoning describes it as “an apocalyptic urban legend about love, betrayal, weeds, gentrification, cannibalism, and survival of the fittest.”
The cast of the series includes Justina Machado, Alejandro Hernandez, Keita Updike, and K. Todd Freeman. All episodes of Season 1 are available to stream on Prime Video now. Most recently, Lauper has collaborated with Dolly Parton, Debbie Harry, and more on the comedy’s soundtrack 80 for Brady.
