Chicago rapper Mick Jenkins announced his new album, patience, from August 18 on RBC Records/BMG. He also shared a taste of the record with his new single “Smoke Break-Dance” featuring JID. Listen to it below.
As Jenkins explained in a press release, the LP is an expression of his frustration with the process of going forward. “As best as I can be,” he said, “I’m someone who’s going to do everything he can to turn his situation around.” “I think with a certain level of consistency, this behavior inevitably leads you to a point where you have to wait.”
He continued, “I see this as a period of time in one’s journey, no matter its length, where unseen things must happen; muscles must be torn and repaired, and an understanding of a concept comes to you in a moment entirely devoid of artistic intent. It was during these moments that I found myself more frustrated than ever.” Patience. This amount of work seems such a frustration.”

“Smoke Break-Dance” is almost a marijuana love song, as Jenkins expresses his love of “rollin’ up” and how it helps create a better mood over a syncopated beat. JID adds during his story, “Just a little bit of weed will make *** feel like it’s never coming off the deep end.”
