Public Image Ltd. They return with “Car Chase”, a new song from their upcoming album the end of the world. Listen to the song below.
“Car Chase” is a quirky dance song, with growling bass and driving synths vibrating under John Lydon’s booming vocal. In the verses, he tells the story of a mental patient who escaped from the facility for a night on the town.
“Typical PiL, unpredictable until the end,” Lydon said of the single. “It’s a great smash-and-grab song. It’s about a guy who cleverly gets out of the mental institution every night, unbeknownst to the owners. It’s based on having to go to the malls at night to buy cigarettes and wine and seeing ample parking space and lighting surrounded by a small village, lots of dark trees and country lanes.” It’s a really scary scenario, what if someone sneaked in from there, like a crazy lunatic?”
