The French judicial police raided the headquarters of the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The searches may be part of two initial investigations opened in 2017 and 2022 on suspicion of illegal conflicts of interest and favoritism linked to the method of obtaining contracts, according to BFM-TV, citing the attorney general.
Searches are underway at several sites, including the Organizing Committee and at Solideo, the public institution responsible for directing construction and renovation work related to the Olympic and Paralympic Games, according to Agence France-Presse.
Paris 2024 confirmed the raids targeting local outlets including RMC Sport which revealed an internal memo stating it was “cooperating fully with the police to facilitate their investigation. The Financial Prosecutor’s Office teams will be on site at least today to collect documents”.
The National Financial Prosecutor’s Office (PNF), which is responsible for monitoring economic and financial crimes, also recently raided the 2023 Rugby World Cup site as part of a preliminary investigation into suspicions of corruption or nepotism.
The Olympics are scheduled to start on July 26, 2024.
