Say what you will about Rivers Cuomo, but the man keeps his word. Back in February, after a fan caught the Weezer singer’s attention by posting a video on TikTok of him playing “Buddy Holly” for 990 days, Cuomo invited him to perform the song with the band on tour. This show became reality on Wednesday night in Madison, Wisconsin.
Wisconsin native Evan Marsali plays drums in a band called Diet Lite, though his 15 Minutes of Internet fame came when Cuomo actually “dueted” his 990th video for “Buddy Holly” with a challenge: playing the iconic guitar with The band when the “Indie Rock Roadtrip Tour” came through town. In fact, fan footage shows Marsali with pop-rock veterans, who were hopping around to let the young artist hit “Do What I Do Do What I Do” himself.
The band tweeted: “After 990 videos and one duet @dietlitemusic finally took to the stage to play Buddy Holly last night in Madison, Wisconsin”. Check out the clip below.

The Weezer “Indie Rock Roadtrip” tour continues through the summer, and tickets are on sale now via StubHub. Outside of the music shows, Cuomo has turned to his fans to find a co-writer for the Weezer musical — though he also admitted that the band might have “too much” music.
