After a few turbulent years that saw them fall out and then reconcile, sisters Nancy and Ann Wilson of Hart are working together on new music.
Seven years after Heart released their latest album (2016 Beautiful broken), Nancy revealed that the Wheels are playing new music in a conversation with Joe Rock of New York radio station 102.3 WBAB. In the interview, she also talked about some of her other music projects, including the “Tomboy” project, which sees her cover songs originally written by men.
“I think now I’ve been working on ‘Tomboy’ the most because I like the title, for one thing; I explained (as written by Blabermouth).” But I have a bunch of new ideas for songs. But I was also writing new music with Ann as well. So it’s a real creative time. I think that is going on [my] Now turn around, when I get home I’ll be looking at other projects, including finishing up some new material with Ann. So, it’s really a good time to be creative. And I have a new studio in my house, and so I can’t wait to play a tape on things.”
She continued, “I also worked a little bit with Sue Ennis, who used to work a lot with me and Ann for Music of the Heart. And so I have some songs that I basically worked on with Sue and I took them to Ann. And there are some things that I’m really excited about. Very cool. Like things.” that you wouldn’t have heard of us in the 80’s. [It’s] Closer to what you were originally hearing in the ’70s and late ’70s. So it’s really fun. It’s just exciting and inspiring.”
Nancy and Ann fell out in the aftermath of a 2016 incident where Ann’s husband was arrested for assaulting Nancy’s twin teenage sons. The sisters reconciled on the 2019 “Love Alive” tour, but haven’t played the heart-to-heart show together since. In the past two years, they have embarked on separate tours but insist they are on good terms.
While there was mention of a possible Heart Tour in celebration of the band’s 50th anniversary this year, as of now, various tours have been booked for both Nancy and Ann for 2023. Nancy just kicked off a series of US shows that wrapped June 18th in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, with tickets available. here. In the meantime, Ann will hit the road for a North American summer tour starting July 7 in Toronto. Tickets for her performances can be purchased here.
Nancy added that she is happy to collaborate with her sister on new music again. “It was a really great kind of rediscovering our relationship, working on music together again,” she said. “So, yeah, I’m really happy about that.”
