Animal Collective is an indie, experimental pop group beloved for their intricate arrangements, ornate vocal harmonies, and abstract lyrics. Anal Cunt were a grinding band that lived up to their name by making aggressive, outrageous, and offensive music. The two groups couldn’t be more different, but right now, Google is confusing one with the other.
As a Twitter user jetskitosway He was the first to point outSearching for “Animal Collective” on Google now returns Anal Cunt’s name next to Animal Collective photos. Furthermore, Google attributes the Animal Collective’s many albums to Anal Cunt.
Beyond the two bands sharing similar initials, there’s no clear answer as to why Google confused the two bands: Animal Collective’s most popular album is named after a runway, and Anal Cunt released a song called “I’m Gonna Give You AIDS.” Animal Collective has a teaser photo they pose with a cute dog, and the late Anal Cunt leader Seth Putnam was once filmed shooting heroin while receiving oral sex. All members of the Animal Collective are alive, and Putnam died of a heart attack in 2011.
