Janelle Monae has been particularly praised over the past few years for her talents as a musician, actress, and dancer, but apparently, that wasn’t always the case. in excerpts from Rolling Stone In the profile, Monáe revealed that bricks were once thrown at her mother’s car after she won a talent show several times.

The artist recalled her mother “driving me in my 1988 Dodge Plymouth, to and from talent shows, while people were throwing bricks at our car because we’d won the talent show three, four times in a row.” But Mona explained that this only happened once. Fortunately, the haters haven’t stopped her from blossoming into one of the most truly multi-faceted talents of our day.

Elsewhere in the story, Monáe gives a powerful shot of why she’s so successful. From the beginning of her music career, she set out to get “500 supporters” to buy the CD she was selling out of the trunk of her car in order to live comfortably and have the freedom to “do it independently”.

Monáe also revealed that she didn’t take her first vacation until after the success of her 2010 debut album ArchAndroid. “I had cousins [whose] She said of her first international trip to Jamaica, “The parents had really good jobs growing up, and they were always traveling across the country to different places.” And I was like, ‘Wow. I wish I could have done that as a kid. I want to share this with everyone in my family.”

In the original post Rolling Stone In a personal profile, Monáe said she “feels happier when my boobs come out” while opening up about posing as skin curls for her upcoming album, The age of pleasure, out June 9 via Wondaland Arts Society/Atlantic Records. Project features a result song of the week “Lipstick Lover” and previous single “Float”.
