Juliana Hatfield Announces ELO Covers Album, “Don’t Bring Me Down”: Stream

Juliana Hatfield has announced a new addition to her series of cover albums. Julianna Hatfield sings ELO It drops November 17 via American Laundromat Records, while her rendition of “Don’t Bring Me Down” is available now.

As indie rock royalty, it might come as a surprise that Hatfield would enjoy Electro Light Orchestra’s pop style. However, you can easily trace its indisputably catchy music to the band’s melodies. “ELO songs were always coming on the radio when I was growing up. They were a reliable source of happiness and fascination,” Hatfield said in a statement. “With this album of covers, I wanted to delve into some of the hits of the ’70s, but also shed light on some of the later work. … My job was to try to break all the things down and rebuild so subtly that they felt like mine.”

Hatfield had to go through the details of “Don’t Bring Me Down” in order to put her own take on the 1979 classic. She said the track “is such a solid build that trying to rework it seemed at first like taking a sledgehammer to the concrete”. I wasn’t worried about matching all the sounds and parts exactly to the original, and even dared to have some cymbal mishaps (the ELO version has the famously unaltered drum loop—no crashes—from start to finish). extremist Reinvented but a little more bubbly.”

The project follows The Other Hatfield Albums, 2018 Julianna Hatfield sings Olivia Newton-John and 2019 Julianna Hatfield sings The Police.
