Bruce Springsteen courts at the Irish pub, leading patrons at Song

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band World Tour are taking them to Dublin this weekend for three shows at the RDS Arena. Before hitting the stage, Springsteen hooked up with some locals at a bar in town.

Springsteen had a drink at The Burrow in Rathangan, Co. Kildare, and led the Shepherds in an impromptu a cappella performance of “My Hometown”. His song selection is somewhat poetic, as Springsteen’s ancestral roots go back to Rathangan.

While in Ireland, Springsteen also paid a visit to the Dublin home of Pogues striker Shane McGowan. McGowan’s wife, Victoria Marie Clarke, shared a photo of the musicians with the caption, “What a wonderful honor and lovely experience to get a visit from The Boss. What a truly wonderful man and a complete genius!”

Michael Cronin of Irish band Cronin was in attendance and said Springsteen and McGowan had “great conversations about songwriting, kids, health, diet, the Irish and his Irish roots”. Cronin also gave Springsteen some raw mixes of an album he was working on with MacGowan.

Springsteen’s UK/European tour — which last week included a surprise ensemble from former first lady Michelle Obama — runs through mid-July. After this, the E Street Band returns for a series of US dates. Tickets for their next shows are available here.
