Among the 2023 nominees for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, George Michael has received the most fan votes.

Michael’s support was none other than “Careless Whisper” as the late British pop star garnered 1,040,072 votes from fans who could vote online once a day or in person at the official pool in Cleveland. He was followed by Cyndi Lauper (928,113 votes), Warren Zevon (634,130), Iron Maiden (449,682) and Soundgarden (427,040), but perhaps more impressively, his competition also included artists like Willie Nelson, Kate Bush, A Tribe Called Quest, Rage Against the Machine, and The White Stripes. According to Ultimate Classic Rock, the “Faith” singer has held the top spot since March.

While a fan vote does not guarantee induction, all but one of the five fan vote winners have been entered since the public poll began. The top five vote-getters will be listed together in a single fan ballot to be noted with the votes cast from the official voting members. The advancers for the Class of 2023 are expected to be announced in May with a ceremony to follow in the fall.
