Bruce Springsteen had an unexpected stage guest during his show in Barcelona, Spain Friday night: Former First Lady Michelle Obama sat down with Springsteen and the E Street Band as they performed “Glory Days.”
Obama sang and played the tambourine Born in the United States Classic, alongside Springsteen’s wife and E Street Band member, Patti Scialfa, and actress Kate Capshaw.
The night before the ceremony, Springsteen, Sialfa, Capshaw and Capshaw’s husband, director Steven Spielberg, dined with the Obamas at a restaurant in Barcelona.

Springsteen and Obama’s relationship stretches back to 2008, when Barack Obama first ran for president. Springsteen played many of Obama’s early campaign rallies and his inauguration, and made his way back during his 2012 campaign. He even wrote an Obama campaign song. Later, near the end of his presidency, President Obama awarded Springsteen the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
In 2021, Springsteen and Obama collaborated on a limited podcast series called Rebels: Born in the United States.
