Just in time for what will be Amy Winehouse’s 40th birthday later this year, a collection of the late singer’s journal, handwritten song lyrics and personal photos will be published for the first time in a new book called Amy Winehouse: In her own words. It’s out in hardcover Aug. 29 via HarperCollins.
“Amy Winehouse: In her own words highlights her remarkable writing talent, wit, charm, and lust for life,” reads the publisher’s description of the book. “Through curated Amy’s never-before-seen journals, handwritten songs, and family photos together for the first time, this heartwarming tribute follows Her creative development growing up in north London led to global stardom, providing a rare look at the girl who grew up to become a legend.”
in her words He also gets the blessing of Mitch and Janice Winehouse’s parents, who provide a new introduction to the book: “This beautiful new collection of Amy’s observations and musings shows another side of Amy—her fun and witty side,” they wrote. “We wanted to share this with Amy’s fans so they can also enjoy Amy, in her words.”

Even better, the Winehouse estate will donate 100% of the royalties from in her words to the Amy Winehouse Foundation, with a promise of a minimum of £70,000. Pre-orders for the full-color, 288-page collection are ongoing, and you can check out the cover below.
Winehouse’s path to stardom will be the subject of an upcoming biopic called Back to blackstarring Marisa Abella as the singer.
