You may know Louise Post as the co-first lady of ’90s alternative rock icons Veruca Salt, but she’s now preparing to embark on her own with sleepwalker, Her first album under her own name. With this announcement, she co-played 2023 North American tour dates, as well as a preview ahead of the record’s June 2 release with lead single “Guilty”.
After Veruca Salt released their 2015 comeback album ghost Post went back to writing music as usual. But the songs that began to flow from her—which she says were “almost self-written”—felt more special to her than they had previously done with a band.
“I’ve always known I was a sleepwalker,” Post said of the album’s title in a statement. “I slept around my house routinely as a kid, and even on the street. I believe in hindsight that I was trying to process what was going on in my home with my parents’ troubled marriage. As far as I know, I stopped sleeping after the divorce when I was eight, But there’s always been a part of me that I feel so protective of, a little girl I feel sad for.”

Taking influence from her personal musical heroes as well as new-found favorites through her daughter (namely Billie Eilish), sleepwalker is a continuation of Post’s legacy of heavy hooks and witty lyrics. You can hear Veruca Salt’s usual spunk on the power-pop ripper “Guilty,” but it doesn’t sound like a way to please longtime fans as much as the natural progression of Post’s songwriting in 2020.
Post’s tour dates begin June 12th in Vancouver, hitting 19 major cities across North America until the tour concludes on July 22nd at the Ready Room in St. Louis, Missouri.
