Albert Hammond Jr., best known as the lead guitarist for The Strokes, has announced his fifth solo album, Tunes on the gap, from June 23 on Red Bull Records. On top of that, he has shared a handful of supporting tour dates (get tickets here) and lead single “100-99” featuring Goldlink.

Along with GoldLink, Tunes on the gap Featuring Rainsford, Steve Stevens, and Matt Helders. Co-written remotely with Simon Wilcox, With excellent mastering by Dave Cooley (Paramore, Spoon, Tame Impala) and mixing by Tony Hoffer (Beck, Air, M83). Pre-orders are ongoing.

In a statement, he explained that the song “100-99” was inspired in part by the 1990s hip-hop that Hammond Jr. grew up listening to. “I always gravitated toward melodies in songs I heard on the radio, specifically anything Dr. Dre produced or taped,” he said. “Years later, I’d notice I was pulling the style of those melodic lines into my guitar work, although it wasn’t obvious to anyone else because I was so directly associated with being in a rock band.”

He continued, “‘100-99’ was something I’ve wanted to do for some time — working with a rapper on percussion and a guitar part that I wrote — and it’s really exciting that I was able to do that with GoldLink.” watch the music video, Directed by Angela Ricciardi and Silken Weinberg below.
