music: Hospital party
members Arkansas Symphony Orchestra Play, Wednesday, 4:30-5:30 p.m. in Foyer Gallery at University of Arkansas Hospital for Medical Sciences, 4301 W. Markham Street, Little Rock. The annual gala is part of Dr. Ruth Marie Allen’s Concert Series and part of a gift given to UAMS students, staff, and faculty on behalf of Allen, a former professor of medicine. Entry is free and open to the public.
Lianna Renfro, oboe, and Beth Weller, cours d’Angelis, will play an excerpt from the third movement, “Scène aux champs,” by Hector Berlioz” https://www.arkansasonline.com/news/2023/apr/04/aso – Student Musical Overture and the staff of Uams/”Symphonie Fantastique. Wheeler, violinist Katherine Williamson, violinist Timothy McDuff, and cellist Jacob Winch will perform Jean Francais’s “Quatour.”
Williamson, Macduff and Winch will play the first and second movements, “Allegretto” and “Andante quasi allegretto” of String Trio No. 2, Op. 9 No. 2, by Ludwig van Beethoven. Renfrew, Williamson, Macduff and Winch will play Benjamin Britten in “The Phantom Quartet.” Violinist Meredith Maddox and cellist Chava Appiah will join Renfrew, Wheeler, Williamson, Macduff and Winch on Corrado Maria Saletti’s “Not Serena”.
art: “Parisian” evening
It will pass the Fort Smith Regional Museum of Art “An evening in Paris” To celebrate her 75th Anniversary, 6-11 p.m. April 29 at the ACHE Research Institute’s Health and Wellness Center, 1000 Fianna Way, Fort Smith.
After canceling its annual fundraiser since 2019, the museum is planning a party that will “toast the association’s past and future and captivate new fans for its role in society,” according to a press release. It will include a French appetizer, dinner, dessert and alcoholic beverages.
Jazz de la Rue will line Parisian street musicians along a ‘boulevard’ that also features vivid historical depictions of artists from the Belle Epoque (1871-1914), including Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Camille Pissarro, Edgar Degas, Marie Cassatt, and Pierre- Auguste Renoir. The Western Arkansas Ballet dancers will give the party a “Moulin Rouge” touch with a Cannes performance.
The silent auction will feature Parisian-themed paintings by regional artists. Live auction offerings include trips to Paris (France and Arkansas) and elsewhere, art and jewelry, and a French dinner; Guests will have the opportunity to win a pair of 1 carat diamond earrings with the purchase of “Eiffel Tower Cubic Zirconia”.

Angela Courtney, executive director of the Alex Foundation, and Alison Turner, architectural designer and faculty member at the University of Arkansas, Faye Jones College of Architecture and Design, will speak via Zoom and YouTube, at 3:30 p.m. April 11. Sessions: ‘bring it’
Argentine Community Theatre, 405 Main Street, North Little Rock, will conduct auditions, by appointment, for “Bring It On: The Musical” (Music by Tom Kitt and Lin-Manuel Miranda, Words by Miranda and Amanda Green, Book by Jeff Whitty, Based on the movie), 10am-3pm May 6th. Races, races, races. Make 32 tapes of a show-style song (musical, pop, rock) and take the sheet music as an accompaniment. Refunds will be from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM. May 7th.
