Robert Smith says The Cure has canceled 7,000 Sculpture tickets for its upcoming tour

Robert Smith’s efforts to go after the speculators resulted in the cancellation of 7,000 tickets for The Cure’s upcoming North American tour.

As part of the sales process for the tour, Smith opted out of Ticketmaster’s “Platinum” and “Dynamic Pricing” ticket options, and restricted ticket transfers in markets where he was legally allowed to do so (New York, Illinois, and Colorado all enact legislation protecting distributors).

As a result, according to Smith, “about 7,000 tickets were canceled across about 2,200 orders. These are tickets obtained with fake accounts/listed on secondary resale sites.”

Smith also warned ticket purchasers not to attempt to circumvent ticket transfer rules. Smith declared “Offering to sell/send account login details for TM carriage restrictions… Any/all tickets thus acquired will be forfeited, and original charges on such tickets will not be refunded”. “..the original fees paid on those tickets will be donated to Amnesty International, and the tickets themselves will be resold to fans.”

Smith also successfully pressured Ticketmaster to offer partial refunds to existing ticket holders after it determined they had been charged an “unnecessarily high” transaction fee.

The Cure’s first North American tour in seven years begins in May, with seats available via Ticketmaster.
