Just two weeks after they shared their new album 10,000 geks100 gecs took over the Boiler Room in Los Angeles last night for a DJ set that contained – among a bunch of bangers – a very elaborate version of “Toxicity” by System of a Down.
It’s not too hard to track Laura Leigh and Dylan Brady’s super-industrial abrasive back to Dawn’s adrenaline-fueled, nuclear-metal regimen. The duo toned down the original track’s guitars in favor of shredded instrumentals, a few percussion drops, and cranked up the bass loud enough to cause some slight tectonic shifts.
The hour-and-a-half set also included House of Pain’s “Jump Around,” Yeh Yeah Yeahs’ “Heads Will Roll,” Harry Belafonte’s “Jump in the Line” with Smash Mouth On the Sun’s “Walkin’,” “Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites” by Skrillex mashed up with “Yeah Right” by Vince Staples and many other great choices. Watch the 100 gecs remix of “Toxicity” below, and then you too can replay the entire collection.
