Russia claims the Su-35 crawled over the Baltic Sea while two American bombers flew toward the border

(Reuters) – A Russian Su-35 fighter jet crawled over the Baltic Sea on Monday after two U.S. strategic bombers flew toward the Russian border, but returned to the base after returning, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

This development follows the crash of a US drone in the Black Sea on March 14 after it was intercepted by Russian jets in the first known direct military confrontation between Russia and the US since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February of last year.

“On March 20, the radar installations of the Air Defense Forces of the Western Military District operating over the Baltic Sea detected two air targets flying in the direction of the state border of the Russian Federation,” the ministry said in the Telegram messaging application. .

He added that the targets were US Air Force B-52H strategic bombers.

It added that a Su-35 fighter jet flew into the air to prevent border violations, and added that “after a foreign military aircraft flew away from the borders of the Russian Federation, the Russian fighter returned to its air base.”

The ministry said the Su-35 flight fully complies with international rules for the use of airspace. “It is not permissible to violate state borders in the Russian Federation,” she said.
