Adult Swim has severed ties with Rick and Morty Co-creator Justin Roiland in the wake of news of his felony domestic violence charge, Hollywood Reporter grades. Roiland, who voiced Rick and Morty in the animated movie, will be recast.
A spokesperson for Adult Swim said it has ended its engagement with Justin Roiland. Dan Harmon will now be the sole creator of Rick and Morty which signed a 70-episode deal with the channel in 2018. The series has currently aired six seasons and is closed for 10.
News broke earlier this year that Roiland had been indicted in 2020 on one felony count of domestic battery with bodily injury and one felony count of false imprisonment by threat, violence, fraud and/or deception. He was accused of starting a violent incident with Jane Doe, whom he was dating at the time; The woman later obtained a protective order against him. Roiland pleaded not guilty in 2020 and appeared in court earlier this month as part of a pretrial hearing. He faces up to seven years in prison if convicted.
In addition to the address Rick and Morty Roiland co-created the animated Hulu series Solar opposites, where he also serves as a voice actor and executive producer. In addition to this, he is acting in the Hulu series koala man Hulu has not commented on Roiland’s domestic violence trial.
